Aurora Wings Ch #67: Joyous Occasion

Greetings! Today marks the beginning of a new challenge with Aurora Wings! For this go-round, we challenge you to make a project for a "Joyous Occasion." It can be anything....graduation, a birthday, Christmas, etc. I chose to make a Christmas card, because why not get a jump on things? ;) My card features Little Christmas Tree, from the Sprite collection. You can find him on the Aurora Wings site HERE, and in the Etsy Shop HERE. Now, let's take a look at this cutie.

I colored the Little Christmas Tree Sprite with Zig Clean Color Markers. I liked how this tree looks like it is made out of fabric, as if the Sprite is wearing a costume. So I colored the tree itself kind of flat, and not with a lot of definition so that I could mimic fabric a bit. The ornaments were colored with a Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen. It's hard to see in the above photo, but you'll be able to see it better in the 3rd picture.

The large circle (done with the same Neenah Desert Storm Kraft paper as my card base), was made with a stencil from Stampendous. I inked it with VersaMark ink and then applied Detail Clear embossing powder to it and heat set it. The circle and scallop die are both from Stampendous' Build a Wreath Die Set

I felt as though I needed a bit more shine and texture on my card, so I VersaMarked the entire perimeter (yup, it's come to the point where we need to make "VersaMark" into a verb) and heat embossed Aged Green Embossing Enamel. I love the effect. All of those colors are in one jar! Finally, I added a simple Laurel Burch Holiday sentiment. The sweet Sprite is certainly the star of the show here.

I hope you will play along with the Aurora Wings Challenge team! We look forward to seeing your "Joyous Occasion" creations! Please be sure to visit the Aurora Wings Blog to see more inspiration and to get more details on how to join in. Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Absolutely ADORABLE, Alison! Love the rustic feel of the kraft and the cool stencil circle behind him. He does look like he's been stitched from felt and the fab sparkle of his ornaments and cool enamel around the edges adds to the festive feel. Love the font on the sentiment, too. Fabulous! xxD
So precious! I love the way you colored this Sprite. You totally got my intent about this being a sprite wearing a 'tree' costume. I always imagined it was made with green felt and red pompoms glued on! The edge treatment looks fantastic and so is the bold design. Thank you so much for this adorable and whimsical inspiration for our latest challenge at Aurora Wings today, Alison! Mitzi xxx

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga

Remembering Aletha

Greetings, Friends. This post today is part of a very special blog hop. We are celebrating the life of an amazingly talented artist and friend. The crafting community lost Aletha Jane Williams on May 5, 2019. Those of us that worked with her on Design Teams or on Challenge Blogs all agree that she was one of the sweetest and most talented women we knew. We are not here to mourn her loss though. This hop is happening in conjunction with a very special celebration of her life and her art that her husband Bob is holding in her home city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Please join us in honoring our incredibly creative friend Aletha . My card features the "Remembering Aletha" Sprite, which Mitzi (owner and artist of Aurora Wings ) created specifically for this hop. She is generously giving the digi away to all, over on her blog. This sweet Sprite looks so much like Aletha, and I know she would have been honored. If you download this digi for yourself, please be sure to give a huge "
